Monito, Monita

Time for something light... or something, soft, something hard and something hairy!

Christmas is one of the most awaited event in the Philippines. Correct me if I'm wrong in saying that we have the longest Christmas season which starts right after all saints day (for some people it's even as early as September!). In the Philippines, it's almost a sin not to have a Christmas party, although I know of some companies who are foregoing their party this year for practical reasons or for loftier ones (like donating the equivalent of the amount to charitable cause). For those companies who will push through with partying this year, especially the ones with headcount higher than 500, the preparations are underway else, they'll be in for a lot of headache (something similar to what I am having right now, hehehe)

Anyway, one of the things we always do is the Kris Kringle or Monito Monita. Funny how at the start of each, we keep on arguing as to what is the best way to do it. There are so many variations in terms of level of confidentiality, naming conventions, price cap, etc. There are also a hundred and one ways to do it. Every year, it gets crazier and crazier.

This year, me and my HR team have wizened up from our Kris Kringle experience last year and are making sure that this year is better.

Wait, there has to be an HR perspective to this. Let's see...I like the fact that we do this every year as a team, it kinda help us draw closer together (as if we are not close enough!) I also like the fact that every year we hold Christmas party of our own and get to enjoy each other's company outside the formality of the work environment. Personally, I think it is good that people who work together build a strong bond and sense of camaraderie. After all, we spend most of our waking hours together, might as well make it a good one.

Till next!
